ProjectMultitouch Unit
ABC recently approached Curio to build a Multi-touch screen to be used in the foyer of the ABC Ultimo building. With the software development in the hands of the talented Ardrian Hardjono, Curio was responsible for all the electronics/hardware and enclosure. Using parts from all over the world Curio fabricated the 55" multi-touch screen using Diffused Illumination technology. Curio also developed a simple Application Management System to add and manage multi-touch applications on the unit. The ABC Multitouch provides a truly unique way to interact with media.

ProjectInteractive HSD Unit
Curio was contacted by George P Johnson and asked to create an interactive pod for Toyota to be used in the 08/09 motorshow circuit around Australia. Curio was responsible for all the internal electronics, wiring and software development. We used some interesting hardware for this job including DMX light controllers, magnetic reed switches and custom made input/output controllers. All the LED lighting and hardware was controlled by our software developed on Adobe AIR. The end product was an engaging and interactive way to view Toyota's new Hybrid Synergy Drive technology.

Throughout 2009 Curio worked closely with the triple j web team to enhance the triple j and triple j Unearthed websites. Work included flash development on the jukebox media player. We helped build the Hottest 100 voting user interface, using AJAX and MusicBrainz we were able to create a live search of any music artist and track of all time. Curio built the HTML template and Javascript functions required for the new Media Archive. Curio was also responsible for building the new triple j header using jQuery and AJAX to show currently playing programs and song information. Recently we built the live radio player for the triple j unearthed website.

Curio was contracted by DisplayCom to create a summer and winter motion graphic video for Westfield shopping centres. Each video was about 8 minutes long and over 12,000 frames of animation. We used Adobe After Effects to create each animation and then compiled the sequence in Final Cut Pro. Working under a tight deadline the DVD images where uploaded to our server, then downloaded and installed the next morning on numerous plasma screens in portrait orientation. The Westfield Fashion Hub videos where produced and delivered for 9 different Westfield shopping centres in Australia.

The Bentley website was another collaboration between Gwarsh and Curio Productions. Gwarsh did a fantastic job on the design while Curio handled the flash development and content management system. Built in Actionscript 3 the Bentley website was an exciting project featuring a fullscreen slideshow background giving the site a constant flux. All the content in the site is managed by Curio's custom built CMS. The owners can update the menu, change the gallery, add a new press article, all from the CMS. From start to finish the project was completed in 3 weeks.

Curio and Gwarsh worked together to create an engaging and visually rich website for the high end fashion shoe brand Skins Footwear. The talented Joel Wasserman from Gwarsh handed over a polished design ready for Curio to perform all flash and web development. Building the framework using flash remoting and all data coming from the content management system we gave the client full control over there websites content. Utilising the amazing photography as a full screen scaling background and fine tuned animation Curio delivered an elegant and alluring website.

Founded in 2006 by Kate Taylor and Damien Oliver, Curio Productions is a small studio based in mid north NSW Australia. Our business has grown rapidly through word of mouth. We love stepping up to a challenge and bring a fresh approach to every project.
At Curio we spend over half of our time in research and development, constantly evolving and learning new techniques, we love to experiment with cutting-edge and emerging technology.
